A brief summary of where Wyatt Milton stands on current issues.

Student Discipline

The goal of the Baker County School District is to prepare students to be successful citizens.  With this in mind, student discipline must be on the forefront of any school leader’s agenda.  I believe that a school system cannot reach its full potential without solid disciplinary practices.  As Superintendent, I will renew a focus on firm, fair, and consistent discipline in all schools.  I will ensure that student misbehavior is used as a learning opportunity to restore relationships with all stakeholders.

School Safety

Florida Statute 1006.08 dictates the District school superintendent shall recommend plans to the school board that promote the safety and welfare of all students. Having a safe learning environment for students must be our top priority. If students aren’t safe, they cannot learn. I commit that school safety will always be evaluated and assessed to ensure that our safety practices are as efficient as they can possibly be. I will work with local law enforcement to ensure that students are protected from harm and maintain a zero-tolerance policy on crime.

School Facilities

The physical school environment plays a pivotal role in a student’s learning experience. Clean and attractive facilities add great depth to the mindset of students and staff. I vow to work with the facilities and maintenance department to ensure that our facilities stay in pristine condition for all members of the community. I will also work diligently in the planning and preparation for the new construction at Baker County Middle School and will be proactive seeking funding opportunities for facilities as our county continues to see population growth.

School Finance

I have always been a staunch conservative when it comes to taxpayers’ dollars, as well as my own. I was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to serve as a member of the Baker County Hospital Authority. This board sets the millage rate and collects your tax money specifically for medical care in Baker County. With this said, I voted NOT to increase your tax dollars in 2023. I will continue to look after the best interest of taxpayers when it comes to school finance. I will ensure that funds are used in the most efficient and cost-effective manner that benefits all concerned parties.

Community Involvement

A successful school breeds a successful community. I fully intend to partner with parents and families in their child’s education.  I will have an open-door policy and invite citizens to voice their concerns to my office.  I aim to develop more comprehensive parent communication strategies to ensure that parents are abreast of critical information. I will continue to foster healthy relationships with community members. It truly takes a village to raise a child and my goal is to involve as many stakeholders in the Baker County School District as possible.
