Baker County,
I am honored to introduce myself and announce my decision to seek the position of Superintendent in the Baker County School District. I am Wyatt Milton, and I have lived in Baker County my entire life. I am the son of Johnny (BCHS ’76) and Dayle (BCHS ’77) Milton. I am the youngest of four children, including my sister, Anna Dayle Milton Fuss (BCHS ’03), and brothers, Garrett Milton (BCHS ’05), and JD Milton (BCHS ‘06). I am a proud 2012 graduate of Baker County High School. My family includes many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins who are graduates of BCHS or currently students in our school district. My family has deep roots in Baker County and my parents instilled Gospel values in my siblings and me, raised us in church, and taught us that if you want to serve, start right where you live. This lesson is what encouraged me to begin my career in education right here in my hometown.
From the time I was a student in Baker County, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. After high school graduation, I attended the University of Florida earning a bachelor’s degree in history and education, then earning a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education. While these degrees have shaped my career, my time in our classrooms and working in our community have led me to the decision to seek the office of superintendent.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked as a classroom teacher, a school level administrator, and currently serve as a district level administrator. In 10 years, I have been recognized by district administrators for my work ethic and dedication to service and have been promoted numerous times. Under the leadership of our current administration, I quickly worked my way up to my current position of Director of Transportation in the Baker County School District. While I am honored to receive promotions for hard work and dedication, I think the number one reason I have been successful is my love for people. I have not only been a teacher and leader, but I have worked to be a mentor and build positive relationships with my co-workers, students, and the families of my students. I have built trust by setting goals, keeping promises, and consistently being there for others. In my opinion, success cannot be measured by degrees or years of experience, but success must be measured by what you have given to others. Serving others is where I feel successful.
Over the years, I have proven to the students and families I serve, the teachers I work with, and the administrators I work for, that I am a driven educator with purpose and vision. I recognize that we have a strong school district, but I also recognize that growth comes from change. If we always settle for status quo, we rarely allow ourselves to grow. It is my goal to lead our county with vision and purpose so that we can use our strong foundation to push our schools to excellence. Baker County, please join me in my campaign to represent our school district as your Superintendent. I am Wyatt Milton, and I really am #bestforbaker.
Thank you for trusting me!
